Contacting agencies What is the process? • Contact by phone • Follow up with sending resume and cover letter • Follow up with phone call to ensure that they received your paperwork work (Address to HR/ Manager or both) • Set up interview • Contact Placement Co-ordinators to advise of interview • Arrange further meeting with the three parties

When do I start looking? • SHOULD BE LOOKING FOR PLACEMENTS NOW – WITH A START DATE IN MID TO LATE August of this year – (with exceptions for mid year and part time students) • It is a 200 hour placement for Certificate IV students – and must be completed as per block on timetable or a combination of days that class does not run and + block in your time table. • Attendance at classes and workshops and other training is still required

  4. ENSURE ALL DOCUMENTATION HAS BEEN COMPLETED PRIOR TO PLACEMENT AND SUBMITED TO YOUR TEACHER • ENSURE YOU HAVE PROCESSED AND IN RECEIPT OF A WORKING WITH CHILDRENS CHECK AND A POLICE CHECK. (POLICE CHECKS MUST BE VALID – LAST FOR 12 MONTHS ONLY) WWC CHECKS MUST BE VALID – 5 YEARS. • ONCE YOU HAVE FOUND AN AGENCY THAT IS OFFERING YOU A PLACEMENT AND YOU HAVE BEEN INTERVIEWED BY THEM, MAKE CONTACT WITH A PLACEMENT COORDINATOR AND BOOK IN A TIME FOR THE ACTIVATION MEETING. • THIS MEETING IS A TRIADIC ONE WITH YOU, YOUR PLACEMENT AGENCY STAFF AND CHISHOLM PLACEMENT COORDINATOR IN ATTENDANCE. • NO PLACEMENT CAN START UNTIL THIS MEETING TAKES PLACE.

Process for preparation.. • COMMENCE PLACEMENT AS PER DATES SET IN AGREEMENT COMPLETED IN PREVIOUS STEP. • DURING PLACEMENT, CONTACT PLACEMENT COORDINATOR HALF WAY THROUGH (100 HRS) AND DISCUSS PROGRESS. PLACEMENT COORDINATORS WILL ALSO TALK WITH YOUR AGENCY PLACEMENT STAFF ABOUT YOUR PROGRESS. • COMPLETE REFLECTIVE JOURNAL WHILST ON PLACEMENT. • COMPLETE AGENCY REPORT WHILST ON PLACEMENT. • BEFORE COMPLETION OF PLACEMENT (2 WEEKS PRIOR) NOTIFY CHISHOLM PLACEMENT COORDINATORS TO BOOK IN A TIME FOR FINAL ASSESSMENT OF PLACEMENT. THIS WILL BE A TRIADIC MEETING AND YOU MUST BE IN ATTENDANCE AS ASSESSMENT QUESTIONS WILL BE ASKED IN RELATION TO YOUR PLACEMENT. ALL WRITTEN ASSESSMENTS WILL BE COLLECTED ON THIS DAY OR ON THE LAST DAY OF PLACEMENT

  6. What to work on today… • Police check • WWC Check • Identification 100 points • Everyone should have or be working towards completing their resume and cover letter to be sent to agencies as part of the placement process • Time today should be spent contacting agencies and working of meeting the above document requirements and or working towards getting the above documentation prepared.

  7. In small groups- reflective learning Brainstorm the meaning of the following terms in relation to working within the youth sector: you will then discuss your responses with the group • Professional development • Mentoring • Supervision
