Dialogue 1At the Health Club • Context: Mr. Reed comes to Health Club, and a clerk greets him • Pre-listening questions: • What kind of massage will the man have? • When will the man pay the bill? Staff: Good afternoon ,sir. Welcome to the health club! Guest: Good afternoon, I’m staying in this hotel. Can I use the facilities here?

  4. Staff: Yes, for registered guest, the use of the facilities are free. May I know your room number, please? Guest: of course. I’m staying in Room 1206.this is the room card (Checking the room card and giving it back) Staff: OK, Mr. Reed, Let me introduce to you our facilities ours is the best health club in the town. Our gym has the latest sports apparatus, a tennis and squash courts and both indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a steam room, spa pools sauna and massage rooms .Which do you prefer? Guest: Oh, I just want to sit down and relax. Staff: Then how about the tradition Chinese massage ? It will relieve your stress and tiredness. But before the massage you may need a sauna .

  5. Guest: It sounds good . But is that all free . Staff: Well, for guests staying in our hotel sauna is free and we give a 50% discount on massage .That is ,RMB 20per hour Guest: OK. Should I pay the bill before or after it. Staff: Neither , sir . You’ll just sign your bill after the service and pay it when you check out. Guest: I see. Can you show me where it is? Staff: Sure. This way ,please. (They arrive at the locker room.) Staff:Here is the key to your locker. I will come back after you finish sauna . Have a good time, Mr. Reed. Guest: Thanks a lot . Staff: You’re welcome.

  6. Dialogue 2 At the Karaoke • Context: Miss Thompson and Mrs. Clement are at a • Karaoke bar .A host greets them. • Pre-listening questions: • What do they order for drinks? • 2) Who will prepare the songs which the guests have • ordered?

  7. Staff: Good evening, ladies !Welcome to Oasis KTV Bar! For how many? Guest1: Two Staff: So a room for two. Could I know whether you are staying at this hotel Guest1: Yes Our room number is 1432 (The host quickly notes down the room number) Staff: And your names, please? Guest1: Mrs. Clement and Miss Thompson

  8. Staff: C-L-E-M-E-N-T and T-H-O-M-P-S-O-N. Is this correct? Guest: Exactly. (Write down their names) Staff: Now ladies ,since you’re registered guests, singing Is free. We only charge you for the drinks and snacks. You may pay the bill when you check out. Please come this way. Is this room OK? Guest1: Awesome! Staff: Good. Here is the song list, song order slip and a pencil. Just write down the songs you want to sing on the slip. Our DJ will prepare the songs you’re ordered. By the way , Do you want something to drink or some snacks? Here is the drink list

  9. Guest1: I would like some soda water .How about you?. Guest2 :Me too Staff: Just a minute . (A few minutes later .)Here are two sodas for you .Now can I take your song order? Guest1: I can’t decide for the moment What about you, Mrs. Clement?. Guest2: I would like “Sailing” Staff: No problem .Take your time ,ladies .I’ll be at your service at any time .your first song “Sailing” will begin soon .Enjoy yourselves!

  10. Dialogue 3 At the Swimming Pool • Context: Mr. Ramsay and his wife come to the swimming • pool of the Atlantic Hotel .A receptionist comes to • greet them. • Pre-listening questions: • How many swimming pools are there in this hotel ? • What are they? • 2) Why is Mr. Ramsay worried?

  11. Staff: Good afternoon, madam and sir .How may I help you? Guest1: Yes .We’re Mr. and Mrs. Ramsay in room 1802. Staff: Welcome. For registered guests ,swimming is free of charge. Guest: Well, you see ,my wife hates suntan, but sunshine is never too much for me . Staff: Oh, I see. We have both an indoor and an open-air swimming pool to please you both.

  12. Guest2: What is the temperature of the indoor poor? Staff: It’s a solar hated one with a temperature of some 24 degree. Guest1: That’s good. But to tell you the truth ,my wife doesn’t swim well. I don’t know whether I can leave her alone Staff: Don’t worry , sir. We have full-time coaches to ensure her safety. Guest2:Isn’t it great, darling? What are we wait for? Staff: Do you have any valuables to deposit ? Guest2: Oh yeah, I forgot to take of my earring just now.

  14. Dialogue 4 Golfing • Context: Mr. Johnson makes a phone call to the Recreation • Center to reserve the hotel’s golf course. A • receptionist the call. • Pre-listening questions: • Why is one of the courses called the national course? • What is the rate for the national course?

  15. Staff: Good morning. Recreation Center. How may I help you? Guest: Good morning. This is Bob Johnson. I’d like to book your golf course. Staff: How many people do you have? Guest: Two. Staff: When will you come to play? Guest: Tuesday morning, about 9:00 a.m. Staff: Do you want to rent our buggy ,caddie bag and club?

  16. Guest: Yes, please. Staff: Mr. Johnson, we have two courses , the lake course and the national course. Which one do you want? Guest: What’s the difference? Staff: There are no big differences except that the national course is the course of National Championship. Guest: I see .I want the national course. What is the rate for it. Staff: RMB45 ,including coffee or tea ,18 hotels of championship golf and buggy.
