Benefits of Renewable Energy • Economic Benefits • Reduce operating costs by offsetting electric use. • Generate income through SREC’s (Solar Renewable Energy Credits- $500-$650/credit): • Each time a solar photovoltaic system generates 1000kWh (1MWh) of electricity, an SREC is issued which can then be sold or traded independent of the power generation. • Example: 100KW~ 100SRECs or $50,000 value • Environmental Benefits • Reduce fossil fuel consumption and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. • Social Benefits • Educate students, staff, and parents on renewable energy. • Integrate lessons into science, math, and environmental studies.

What is Driving the Renewable Energy Market in New Jersey • NJ Renewable Portfolio Standard: • requires 22.5% of NJ Power be provided by renewable sources by 2021. • Annual percentage increases 2.12% each year to meet goal. • Specific In-State solar set aside requires 2.5GW by 2021 & 5.3GW by 2026. • Penalties applied for every kW not met. • Current Penalty is $711/kW http://www.dsireusa.org

Property must be used in a trade or • business or held in production of income: • Solar Credits = 30% of Eligible Cost Basis • Energy property construction must begin in 2010 • Treasury Department will make payments to qualified applicants within 60 days from the date the completed application is received! • ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BEFORE THE STATUTORY DEADLINE OF OCTOBER 1, 2011
