STANDARDS UPDATE NOTIFICATION SYSTEM (SUNS) • NASA UPDATE PROVIDERS • Update Notifications and Accessibility to Non-Government and Other Government (Non-NASA) Technical Standards Are Provided under Contract to the NASA Technical Standards Program Office. • However, NASA-, Center-, and Program/Project-Developed Technical Standards Used by the Agency, and Their Update Notifications, Are Not Always Readily Available/Accessible to Users. • Standards Document Owners within the Agency Are Encouraged to Utilize SUNS to: • Add Current Document Information so Action can be Taken to Automatically Notify Update Requesters When Requests are Made. • Provide Update Notifications When Changes Occur so Users of Your Documents can be Automatically Notified as Requested. • In Most Cases, Provide Website Access to the Document by Entering the URL of the Current Document Location to Link from the NASA Technical Standards Program Website. http://standards.nasa.gov

STANDARDS UPDATE NOTIFICATION SYSTEM • NASA UPDATE PROVIDERS (Continued) • Current Capability Provides Update Notifications When Requested for the Following Standards if Accepted for Notification by the Update Provider: • Non-Government Voluntary Consensus Standards (VCSs) such as ASTM, SAE, ASME, CCSDS, etc. • Other Government Standards (non-NASA) such as DoD, FED, FAA, etc. • NASA-Developed Technical Standards • Office of the NASA Chief Engineer (HQ) • Office of Safety and Mission Assurance (HQ) • Office of the Chief Information Officer (HQ) (In Work) • Kennedy Space Center (KSC) • Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) • Johnson Space Center (JSC) – Shuttle Program Documents • Others may be added later (GSFC, Space Station, SSC, etc.) http://standards.nasa.gov

STANDARDS UPDATE NOTIFICATION SYSTEM • NASA UPDATE PROVIDERS (Continued) • Those Providing Standards Update Information are Responsible for Obtaining and Maintaining Export Control and Distribution Authorization and Properly Submitting Information in Compliance with NASA Export Control and Distribution Policies and Procedures. • Those Providing Standards Update Information are Responsible for Maintaining Their Information Current and for Accuracy of Content. • The NASA Technical Standards Program Office Maintains Metrics on All Standards Products Accessed.   9. Use TAB KEY to Navigate, or Click in a Field. Displayed data is default. Enter Data in Mandatory Fields (*) Enter Date of Change to Document If Applicable Standard Types May Not be Applicable Enter Date of Revalidation If Applicable Enter Change Number Enter Volume and Book Numbers If Applicable Enter URL to Establish Direct Link to Document http://standards.nasa.gov

  10. Access is based upon Shuttle Authorization Click to “Add” Document Information to Database http://standards.nasa.gov

  11. Click to Submit an Update Notification http://standards.nasa.gov

  12. Enter Document Number (NSTS 007700, for example) and Click Search. http://standards.nasa.gov

  13. Click Document Number for Which Update Notification Applies NSTS 007700 http://standards.nasa.gov

  14. Select Notification Type from Pull-Down Box. Screen is Populated with Data from Last Submittal. Change Data to Current Information. NSTS 007700 If Notification Type “Superseded” is Selected, Type In “Superseded By” Data. III 142 01/12/2005 http://standards.nasa.gov

  15. Enter URL for direct link to the document. http://standards.nasa.gov

  16. Click to Accept or Decline a Request for Update Notification http://standards.nasa.gov

  17. Select One from Pull-Down Box for Search. http://standards.nasa.gov

  18. Click to Accept or Decline Requests for Update Notifications http://standards.nasa.gov

  19. OR Enter Comments or Reason(s) for Declining. Add or Change Data and Verify Correct. Then Click “Decline” to Send Email http://standards.nasa.gov

  20. Then Click “Update/Accept” to Send Email http://standards.nasa.gov

  21. Click to Update Documents http://standards.nasa.gov

  22. Click This Document Number, for Example http://standards.nasa.gov

  23. Any Data Changed will Change in the Database, but WILL NOT Send an Update Notification. Be Sure to Click “Save” OR Click “Add OPR Information” to Retain Data. http://standards.nasa.gov

  24. Click to Add Notification Type http://standards.nasa.gov

  25. Please Coordinate a New Notification Type with the NASA Technical Standards Program Office. http://standards.nasa.gov

  26. Click to Update or Delete a Notification Type Click to Access Guidelines for Updating SUNS Information http://standards.nasa.gov

  27. Please Coordinate a New Notification Type with the NASA Technical Standards Program Office. http://standards.nasa.gov

  28. Please Coordinate All Deletions of a Notification Type with the NASA Technical Standards Program Office. These types apply Agencywide Rather to a Specific Program/Project. http://standards.nasa.gov
