  4. Curriculum *Math Workshop *Reading Workshop/Social Studies *Language Arts/Writing Workshop *Science *Spelling *www.tea.state.tx.us – List the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills

  5. STAMPEDE * Shawnee Trail Academics Motivate Participants to Explore, Discover, and Excel *Monday – Thursday 8:00 – 8:30 *Parents must leave the PODs by 7:50 *Students will be tutored in fluid groups while others are participating in Extension and Reader’s/Writer’s Activities.

  6. Binders and Planners • Binders are set up the following way: • Return to teacher • Homework • Take home folder • Guided Reading folder • Planner – communication tool between school and home

  7. STAARS • Tested in 4th grade: Reading/Math/Writing • Writing will be tested over two days – Expository and Narrative • Items are more cognitively challenging (college/career readiness). • Student Success Initiative will be in place for 5th grade • More information on STAAR can be found on www.www.tea.state.tx.us/

  8. Homework • Weekly calendar log requiring a min. of 100 min of reading and math fluency a week. • Weekly spelling choice due on Thursdays

  9. Lunch • Students should turn money into the cafeteria in the morning before 8:00. • Snacks available for lunch- make sure your child knows what they are allowed to purchase. • Parents may set limits on lunch account. Forms are available online and in the cafeteria. • If students are still hungry, they will be allowed to go back through the line at 12:45. • You may bring lunch and snacks for your child only.

  10. Birthday Treats and Snacks • Parents may send storebought items with their child in the morning. We will distribute them at the end of the day. • Please let your teacher know ahead of time that you will be sending in birthday treats with your child. • A “WONDERFUL” alternative to birthday snacks is your child’s favorite book dedicated to the class. • Classroom snacks are allowed daily with a plain water bottle (no twist caps). Healthy snacks only please! (no cookies, candy, honey buns, or messy items- limit the sugar-The first 3 ingredients should not be sugar.)

  11. FISD Attendance Policy • The law states that a student can’t have more than 10 absences or parts of days (including being tardy and leaving early), or a combination of both within a six month period. • ***We must have WRITTEN notice within 3 days to excuse an absence. It can be a doctor or parent note. You can email Jodi Timbs our data clerk on the ST website to report an absence.*** • 5 Tardies/Absences - Phone call from teacher, letter sent home • 8 Tardies/Absences- Phone call from Mrs. Cox (AP), and a letter sent home • 10 Tardies/Absences- Phone call from Mrs. Cox (AP), letter sent home, truancy charges (going to court) can be filed if it continues

Communication Please call the front office in the case of an emergency: (469)633-2500 • Please send notes in cases of absences or changes in transportation, even if you have notified the office. • Our planning time is 8:30 – 9:15.
