What Is The Scientific Method? • Goodyear Science Fair • January 24, 2006 • Open House 10:00-12:00 • January 25, 2006
1. Purpose / Problem • Identify a problem. • What do I want to find out? • What is my main question?
2. Hypothesis • What you think will happen. • Make an intelligent guess. • You must be able to test the hypothesis.
3. Materials • What materials do you need? • Make a list of all materials. • List EVERYTHING used and the amounts. • Use the Metric System
4. Procedure • What did you do to answer the question or solve the problem? • List the steps in the exact order in which they were done.
5. Collect Data / Observations • What did you see happening while you did your project? • What did you measure? • Record the date, day, time and observation in your log book.
6. Results • What happened? • When you did your experiment, what did you observe, what data did you collect? • Show results in your log book and on charts and graphs.
7. Conclusion • What did you learn? • What do you know about your question, hypothesis and predictions now? • Did the results of your experiment support your hypothesis?
