  2. What was the name of the African American language made up of several African languages and colonial English?

  4. Which island did most African slaves come through on their way to Charleston?

  6. What knowledge did the slaves have that was so helpful to the economy in South Carolina?

  7. They knew how to grow rice.

  8. How and why was the Gullah culture developed?

  9. It developed through the strong desire of the many slaves who spoke different languages to develop a common language.

  10. What are some of the traditions found in the Gullah culture?

  11. It has its own music, stories, and art forms such as sweetgrassbasket weaving.

  12. How did the slaves feel and react to living on the big plantations?

  13. Many went along with the life given them working long hard days in the fields, singing though not always happily. Some tried to run away, some rebelled and even caused the Stono Rebellion.
