  2. Congratulations!!! Dear Big Dreamer, Thank you for your interest in this project. You have been selected out of 1,000,000 dreamers as this year’s “Dream Big – design your dream bedroom” contest. You have won $25,000 to design your dream bedroom. As a way to enrich your already wonderful math curriculum, you are offered this “optional” activity for extra credit. This assignment includes many formal assessments and a class presentation at the end of the project. This class presentation – a summative assessment - will be presented upon completion of the project. You are to work at your own pace. The due date is dependant on you. Yours in mathematics, Mme. K.   4. SCALE DRAWINGS Video A). Watch the following teacher tube video : http://www.teachertube.com/viewVideo.php?video_id=169086&title=Scale_drawings Journal Entry B). Watch the video a second time, taking notes and answering the following questions: i). What did I already know that I saw in the video? ii). What did I learn? iii). What would I like to know more about? iv). Where do you see scale drawings in the real world v). Anything else you might like to add

  5. Ratios and Proportions On-line Practice http://ca.ixl.com/math/grade-8/do-the-ratios-form-a-proportion Journal Entry #2 Self Assessment: How did I do with this activity? Do I feel that I have a significant understanding of ratios and proportions? Do I need further practice? How do I know that I do or do not need further practice?

  6. Practice Proportions Complete the “Ratio and Proportion Worksheet” Please see Mme. Whitnell for this worksheet.

  7. Practice Scale Drawings Make a scale drawing of the classroom, using http://math-kitecture.com Please make sure you take accurate measurements of: • length and width of the room • Bookshelves • Windows, • Chalkboard, smartboard, white board • Filing babinets • All desks (incluging teacher’s desk) • Etc.

  8. Brainstorming and Planning Your Design Journal Entry: A). Watch an episode of “Extreme Makeover Home Edition” or an interior design show of your choice. Make a list of 10 items (minimum) that you might like to incorporate into your own design. Collage B). Look through flyers, on-line and in magazines and make a collage of all the “things” you might like (i.e. furniture, electronics, colours, pillows, pictures, etc.) to include in your new room.

  9. Start your New Room • Make a rough draft scale drawing of your new room on graph paper including everything you would like to put in this room.

  10. Create a budget You have $25,000. Use it wisely, using “My Dream Room Inventory Checklist” Please see Mme Whitnell for the Inventory Checklist. Price out all items for your “dream room”. These may not exceed $25,000.

  11. Design Your Room Using an on-line tool, (like math-kitecture.com) design your room

  12. Presentation: Putting it all together You may use: • Prezi • Powerpoint • Tikatot
