6. APP is designed to… Demonstrate how assessment is integral to successful teaching and learning
Encourage a broadly based curriculum, generating a wide range of evidence of pupils’ achievement
Provide a fuller picture of pupils’ strengths and weaknesses
Give insights which directly inform future planning, teaching and learning in the course of a year
Help make connections between techniques promoted through ‘AfL’ and judgements relating to national standards
Engage teachers and learners in all year groups in periodic assessment to raise attainment
Offer a secure basis for pupil tracking
7. Why APP in maths ? It is intended to help teachers become more confident in making periodic assessments and to improve the quality and reliability of teacher assessment.
It is important that teachers understand the processes that make up APP and that the tool does not become a burdensome part of assessment.
It is intended as a way of using a range of evidence to review and inform teaching and learning, based on day to day assessment.
The APP tools provide an opportunity to take stock and draw together evidence that has been gathered to make judgements about children's attainment and to help track their progress over time , usually a term.

19. Moderation and Levelling The purpose of in-school moderation is to check the consistency of teachers' judgements after they have made their assessments, to identify and resolve any differences and to agree school standards.
To make the process manageable, it is helpful to have a focus for the moderation rather than try to moderate all the judgements made. You will need to select a sample of work on which you will agree judgements within your school.
