History of Plastic Surgery • There is evidence that plastic surgery, in its earliest form, existed as far back as 4,000 years ago • Between the late 1800s and the early 1900s, plastic surgery was used to reconstruct various body parts of people who were injured during World War I. • In the 1950’s, the public was informed of plastic surgery procedures by plastic surgeons via the television • It wasn’t until the 1980’s that the medical field finally produced brochures for the public that outlined plastic surgery procedures

Types of Plastic Surgery Procedures • There are two branches of plastic surgery: cosmetic and reconstructive • Some of the procedures that fall under cosmetic are as follows: Breast Augmentation, Facelift, Liposuction, and Rhinoplasty (nose surgery) • A few reconstructive procedures are: Breast reconstruction, Burn treatment, Correction of birth defects, and Skin cancer treatment

Time Restraints • People are finding themselves stretched way too thin • You are interested in getting plastic surgery and would like additional information but you are too busy at work to take time off to meet with a doctor. • That is where the Internet comes in.You are able to access the Internet at any time that is convenient for you. • In addition, the majority of information you want can be found on the Internet. You no longer have to run to one bookstore after another.

Knowledge is Power • When you are thinking of getting plastic surgery, it is vital that you do your homework. • What are the risk factors? • Who is a good candidate for this type of surgery? • What is the recovery time? • How successful is this type of surgery? • Are there any new techniques that are on the horizon? • What kind of success rate does your doctor have? • How much will it cost?

Conclusion • The Internet has helped advanced plastic surgery. • People are able to obtain information that is current and relevant. • The Internet has saved people many hours by eliminating the need to run from one bookstore to another. • By being able to access information from various sources, people are better informed and are able to make better decisions about what is right for them.
