  3. Definition - Inclusive Design "The design of mainstream products and/or services that are accessible to, and usable by, as many people as reasonably possible ... without the need for special adaptation or specialized design.“ The British Standard Institute, 2005

  4. Inclusive Design - Product An inclusively designed product must be:-

  5. Inclusive Design - Development Inclusive Product Development:-

  6. Our Inclusive Technology System • To prompt people to hold the handrail when using the stairs for their own safety. • It incorporates sensors and sensory mats at the top and bottom of the stairs. • These sensors activate light and sound. • Sends distress messages to the family member in case of a fall.

  7. Our Aim Continued independent living for the elderly. Greater awareness when using the stairs. Reduction in accidents/fatalities in the home

  8. For Who?

  9. Persona • Mary lives in Dublin in her two storey house. • Mary is a widow and lives on her own. • She has two children who are happily married and living in different areas of Dublin. • Mary has help from her children when needed. • Mary’s house has a cosy and warm interior; • There are carpets throughout the house. • Concerns:- • How would somebody know if I had fallen? • How quickly could I get help? • Objectives • Feeling confident about using the stairs. • Knowing that if I did fall down I would have help on the way.
