  1. Teacher Instructions • Have Students brainstorm all the achievements that Thomas Jefferson had during the course of his lifetime. Have the students use the program wiffiti.com to text in their responses. • After they have come up with several ideas, have them do a Think/Pair/Share activity. First they think to themselves what three things they think are the most important on the list. Then they share their ideas and explain to their partner why they think the three items that they choose are the most important. Call on a few partnerships to share their ideas with the class. • Explain to the students that Thomas Jefferson designed his gravestone and wrote out the epitaph before he died. He chose three accomplishments that he wanted to be remembered for. Show a picture of his gravestone to see what he wanted people to remember about him • Talk to the students about what they want to be remembered for. As a class brainstorm the ideas. Have them choose three qualities or accomplishments that they want to be remembered for. Have them write out three paragraphs describing these qualities, why they are important, and what they need to do now in their lives so that people will recognize those qualities in them
