  2. Apple’s Iphone and Google’s Androids • Both have a lot in common: • 1. Both are Linux-based operating systems for smartphones that have been put together by companies best known for their accomplishments in the PC space. • Both are designed for easy Internet browsing. • Android phones are the most likely to use their devices Internet functionality. • There are advantages and disadvantages to both systems , and the competition between the two is going to shape the smartphone market for years to come.

Iphone : Closed System • The Iphone operating system is completely closed. • Developed Ipods- which was designed basically to play music. • Iphone fans are slightly more social, everything from sharing photos to spending time on social networks and blogs. • It was developed by Apple and for Apple. The only smartphones that will ever run it are made by this one company. • The disadvantage of a closed platform is that limited input can lead to limited devices. For example, Apple prefers built-in memory to memory card slots. If you want a smartphone with a memory card slot . An Iphone isn’t for you.

Android Open System • Android both OS and hardware is open. • It was developed Nov 2007 primarily by Google, with the help of other companies , The Open Handset Alliance, which includes HTC, Samsung, Motorola, Sprint Nextel, Ti and T-mobile. • Was developed primarily to surf the web. • The real strength of this system is it allows a huge amount of people who want a smartphone can do so without paying a licensing fee, and can modify the software in any way to make it suits its specific needs. • The drawback is it can waste huge amounts of time .

Androids Features includes: • Handset Layouts – 3D Graphics , Platform is adaptable to larger, VGA, 2D graphics library. • Connectivity – Androids supports connectivity technologies including GSM/EDGE, CDMA, BLUETOOTH, and Wi-Fi. • Messaging- SMS and MMS are available forms of messaging including threaded text messaging. • Development environment- includes device emulator, tools for debugging.

Androids features: • Web Browser – The Web browser available in Android is based on the open-source Webkit application framework. • Java Support – Specialized VM implementation designed for mobile device use. • Media support – Androids supports audio/video/still/media formats. • DROID- Runs on Androids operating system, runs faster, faster web browser , runs more multi-applications.
