The Dynamics of Prayer • "God, Help Me: How to Grow in Prayer" by Jim Beckman • "Think of any close friend you are in relationship with. These dynamics pretty much capture what goes on between you. You acknowledge some movement in your heart about the other person or about something else you care deeply about; you relate that movement or feeling to the person; you in turn receive from the other person, which typically stirs something in you, to which you respond. It's sort of like a good dance, knowing where to move and when." (p. 60)
The Dynamics of Prayer • "If you have ever experienced a deep conversation with a close friend, think back to what transpired, and I think you will find these dynamics. You share, the other person listens and shares, you listen, and so on. The whole thing goes off track when one friend fails to really hear what the other is saying." (p. 60)
The Dynamics Explained • First we get in touch with what is moving in our hearts, particularly at the deepest level—acknowledge • Second, werelatethose movements to God in prayer • Third, we listen andreceivewhatever he desires to give us in response to what we shared • Finally, werespondto what we just received, which is typically a natural movement, not something forced or burdensome
