  7. Fredericksburg Sec. 14-183.  Keeping livestock.It shall be unlawful to keep or maintain livestock within the city. This section however,shall not apply to any livestock kept or maintained:(1)   As part of a bona fide farming operation existing on or before September 26, 1989;(2)   By any person who had obtained a permit to keep such animals from the director of the city health department on or before September 26, 1989; or(3)   As part of a duly licensed and lawfully operated livestock auction, slaughterhouse, circus, carnival, zoo, or similar business.(Code 1991, § 4-72)Sec. 14-184.  Keeping fowl, pigeons or bees.(a)   It shall be unlawful to keep or permit to run at large any domestic fowl, pigeons, or bees or any like animal within the city limits. This section shall not prohibit the transportation of such animals through the city or containing such animals within the property boundaries of any duly licensed and lawfully operated livestock auction, slaughterhouse, circus, carnival, zoo, or similar business.(b)   This section shall not prohibit the continuance of any bona fide farming operation existing as of January 1, 1955, and located on farms lying within that portion of the city annexed by order of the annexation court dated October 30, 1954.

  8. Norfolk General provisions. 4-0.5Keeping of animals.  Except as otherwise noted, there shall be no raising or keeping of livestock, poultry, fowl, rabbits, bees and the like on less than five acres, and the keeping of four or more dogs or cats above the age of six months shall be prohibited. The keeping of one exotic porcine animal in an independent dwelling unit on a lot containing at least 5,000 square feet shall be permitted subject to the following conditions:

  9. (a)   No exotic porcine animal shall be kept within the city limits without a permit from the Division of Animal Protection. • (b)   No exotic porcine animal kept in a residential district shall exceed the weight of one hundred pounds. The zoning administrator may require a veterinarian's certification as to the weight of the exotic porcine animal. • (c)   No exotic porcine animal shall be housed outdoors at night. No outdoor shelters shall be erected for this purpose. • (d)   All such exotic porcine animals shall be vaccinated against all major swine diseases every six months in accordance with accepted standards of animal husbandry. • (e)   No breeding or sales of exotic porcine animals are permitted within the City of Norfolk in any residential zoning district. It shall be unlawful for any person to maintain within the city limits an exotic porcine animal over the age of six months which has not been spayed or neutered.

  10. Johns Creek Georgia • A domestic animal or livestock shall be kept at the following minimum distances from any occupied building, except the dwelling unit of the owner.   13. Hendorsonville NC Sec. 10-70.  Requirements for construction and maintenance of enclosures. • Each person keeping chickens and fowl within the city shall comply with the following rules and regulations: • (1)   The chicken or fowl house and run must be enclosed, and the chickens or fowl kept within it at all times. • (2)   The chicken or fowl house must be used for chickens or fowl only and it must be well ventilated, with one square foot of window to 15 square feet of floor space. All walls must be whitewashed twice yearly. • (3)   The run must be well drained so there will be no accumulation of moisture. • (4)   The floor of the house and run must be lined at least twice weekly from May 1 to October 1 of each year. • (5)   The floor of the chicken or fowl house and run shall be cleaned daily in a manner approved by the health department and all droppings and body excretions shall be removed daily and placed in a flyproof covered container by the owner or holder of the permit.

  14. Winston-Salem NC Sec. 6-7.  Keeping rabbits. • (a)   Housing.  It shall be unlawful for any person within the corporate limits of the city to keep rabbits, except within sanitary hutches, which shall not be nearer than 20 feet to any property line and in no event nearer than 50 feet to the principal building on any adjoining property. Such hutches shall be so constructed that they can be easily cleaned, and they shall be so constructed as to be a minimum of 24 inches from the ground.  • (b)   Sanitation.  At all times the hutches and the premises shall be maintained in a sanitary manner. There shall be provided a bin or pit which shall be watertight and so arranged that it is flyproof, or a watertight barrel with a close-fitting lid. Manure accumulating in the hutches or on the premises shall be placed in the bin, pit or barrel each day, and the manure shall be removed from the hutches and premises at intervals not longer than five days beginning on March 15 and continuing until September 15 of each year, and at intervals of one week from September 16 to March 14 of each year.  • (c)   Number of animals. • (1)   It shall be unlawful for any person to keep more than ten rabbits of breeding age within the corporate limits of the city. • (2)   The provisions of this subsection (c) shall not apply to keeping or breeding of rabbits by hospitals, medical schools and laboratories.

  15. Anchorage AK • Keeping honey bees, Apis mellifera, in a manner consistent with the requirements of all titles of this Code. Colonies shall be managed in such a manner that their flight path to and from the hive will not bring them into contact with people on adjacent property. To accomplish this, colonies shall be: • a.   At least 25 feet from any lot line not in common ownership; or • b.   Oriented with entrances facing away from adjacent property; or • c.   Placed at least eight feet above ground level; or • d.   Placed behind a fence at least six feet in height and extending at least ten feet beyond the hive in both directions. • No more than four hives shall be placed on lots smaller than 10,000 square feet.

  16. Dover, DE Section 1.  One-family residence zones [(R-20, R-15, R-10, R-8 and R-7)]. • 1.15 Accessory uses, limited to the following: • (d)   Keeping domestic animals (except pigs) for individual domestic purposes or as pets, provided not more than three dogs over six months old and not more than 25 fowl shall be permitted, and no animals (except dogs) or fowl shall be penned or housed within 20 feet of any lot line.

  17. Dover, DE • Sec. 18-16.  Keeping bees. • (a)   Location of beehives from structures and businesses.  Beehives for the housing of bee colonies shall not be located closer than 150 feet from residential structures, hospitals, public eateries, churches, offices or schools.  • (b)   Maintenance permitted at educational and farm facilities; exemption.  Universities, colleges, museums and farms of two acres or more may maintain hives on their properties in a safe manner, provided that the hives meet a 40-foot setback requirement from buildings on adjacent properties. Universities, colleges, museum facilities and farms of two acres or more are exempt from the 150-foot setback requirement for buildings that are located on their properties.  • (c)   Declared nuisance; removal.  Any beehive that is declared a nuisance by a majority vote of the city council may be required to be removed or relocated.  • (Code 1981, § 4-16; Ord. of 12-11-1995)
