  1. Reaction rate How quickly or slowly reactants are turned into products is called the reaction rate

  2. Temperature Increasing temperature will INCREASE the rate of a chemical reaction. Explanation: Increasing temperature increases the molecular movement of the reactants. Therefore, reactants collide more often and produce products at a faster rate.

  3. Surface area Increasing the surface area of the reactants will INCREASE the rate of a chemical reaction. Explanation: Powders will react faster than solid blocks because there is more surface area for reactants to collide.

  4. Concentration Increasing the concentration of the reactants will INCREASE the amount of product formed in a chemical reaction. Explanation: Increasing concentration of reactants means more reactants to produce more products

  5. Catalysts Adding a catalyst to a chemical reaction will INCREASE the rate of a chemical reaction. Explanation: Catalysts speed up chemical reaction but are not used in the reaction. Example = enzymes

  6. Enzymes Enzymes are catalysts that are found in living organisms. These speed up chemical reactions without being used up in the reaction. Example: digestive enzymes

  7. Homework Make sure you have all the correct info on your Factors that Affect Reaction Rate lab sheets… you will use this to study off of! Finish the two balancing chemical reactions worksheets from Wednesday (Skeleton equations and Word equations) for tomorrow
