Johann Gutenberg (1398 – February 1468). By Jonathan O'Brien History renaissance. Renaissance is a French word meaning rebirth . This was the 1400 c onwards. Many great artists, sculptors, writers ,architects, doctors, scientists and inventors were from this time.

  2. Renaissance is a French word meaning rebirth . This was the 1400 c onwards. Many great artists, sculptors, writers ,architects, doctors, scientists and inventors were from this time. E.g. Leonardo Da Vinci, William Shakespeare and Johann Gutenberg.

  3. Johann Gutenberg • Gutenberg came from southern German city of Mainz. • was a goldsmith and printer in Germany. • He invented the • printing press.

  4. Andreas Dritzehen • Andreas Dritzehen was both a goldsmith and a diamond cutter. • He was Johann Gutenberg partner . • He helped with the Printing press

  5. Movable type • There is upper and lower type the upper is the capital letters. • Johann Gutenberg first made movable type in 1450. • The type would have to be backwards if it would be backwards on the page.

  6. Woodblock printing • Johann Gutenberg used wood carvings covered in ink this would be used over and over. • When the papers are finished the wood would be burnt • it would be in black and white.

  7. Printing press • Gutenberg's process made use of an old grape crusher. • This is called the a wine press.

  8. The Bible • The Bible was the first book ever printed it was in latin and was known as the GutenbergBible in 1455 also known as the 42-line Bible • The book is now in the Library of Congress
