Breastfeeding Bonus Life-Size Poster Expansion Project • Met with Niani to obtain background information on Breastfeeding Bonus Awards, specifically the Jackson County WIC project. • Contacted Debbie Mote-Watson with Jackson County WIC to discuss the possibility of expanding the project to other counties in Oregon. • Contacted Party Stand-Ups! in Florida regarding the cost of implementing this project on a larger scale. • Presented information at the Breastfeeding Team meeting. • Sent consent forms to Debbie for the mothers to sign. • NEXT STEPS: • Research the interest other counties/clinics have in implementing this type of campaign • Budget jkj jkj

Group-Centered Education Lesson Plan: “Bringing Home Baby” • Read the National WIC Association’s magazine edition: “Bringing Home Baby”. • Read the Oregon WIC Nutrition Education Guidance tool to gain some background information on creating group-centered education lesson plans. • Drafted the first version of the lesson plan. • Following many revisions (Sara & Bonnie), the final draft was created. Assessment Surveys: 2012 National WIC Association Calendar • Met with Nhu to gather some background information & discuss reasons for conducting calendar assessment. • Drafted the first version of the assessment, which includes a survey for the staff and for participants. • Revisions and edits (Nhu, Susan & Dora). • Final version (includes a Spanish translation of the participant survey). • NEXT STEPS: • 1. Send the staff survey out via email or Survey • Monkey. • 2. Send the participant survey out electronically • and fill out surveys in clinics.

Meetings Webinars • Total Hours Spent in Meetings, Webinars, and Conferences: -63hours -33% of my rotation here at WIC • TCT, NLST, NCO, PC Groups, LA Review, LAWN, BF Team, OFH Current Topics, CHC, as well as meetings getting to know several staff members. • JAD Session, Weight of the Nation, The SPIN Program at UCSD, Hypoglycemia and the Breastfeeding Newborn, Supporting Premature Infant Nutrition; Implementing the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative in the US.

  13. South Waterfront Walking Group Meets every Sunday at 10 AM (rain or shine) at March Wellness & Fitness Center on the South Waterfront.

Closing Thoughts • - Exposure to the field of public health. • - Access to/Availability of Resources, Built Environment. • - Realized the impact & importance of WIC services at the individual/ family, local, state, and national levels. • - I enjoyed seeing WIC work at state and local agency/clinic level. • - Grateful for Community/Public Health Employees!
