The Gupta Empire . Miranda M arban. Rise . 490 years after the fall of the Mauryan Empire a new leader, Chandragupta, would start a new empire. Chandragupta reined from 319 to 335 CE In his time in power he conquered the surrounding areas, from the Ganges River to modern day Allahabad.

  2. Rise • 490 years after the fall of the Mauryan Empire a new leader, Chandragupta, would start a new empire. • Chandragupta reined from 319 to 335 CE • In his time in power he conquered the surrounding areas, from the Ganges River to modern day Allahabad.

  3. Height • Under the rule of Chadragupta the Gupta Empire flourished. They made great advance in art and science. Many historians believe this was “The Golden Era” of India’s history.

  4. Decline • After the death of one of their kings, Chandragupta II, the Gupta Empire began to lose power. • Because, the new leaders were not as effective in ruling, the government became weaker. • Eventually invaders from the Northwest were able to destroy the empire. • By 600 AD, the Gupta Empire was no longer in existence. They were once again made up of small city states

Culture • The Gupta Empire was the center of arts, learning, sciences, technology, astronomy, and math. • The Guptan kings encouraged personal development and because of this the Guptan empire flourished in that area. • The Gupta Empire set the standard for the culture of India today. • Because the economy was so well off. People tended to have a very high standard of living.

  6. Religion • Under the rule of the Guptans, India returned to their Hindu roots. • Hindu became the religion of the state in India • The leaders encouraged the people to follow the teachings in sacred writings.

  7. Economy • Trade reached its peak in the Guptan Empire causing the economy to be pretty well of. • Textiles of various kinds were produced, causing a lot of money coming in to the empire
