Program Goals • Charge from Dean’s office: • Achieve our potential as a vibrant world-class CEN program • With active participation from all stakeholders: faculties from both CISE and ECE departments, employers, alumni, and students. • Immediate goal: address ABET-related issues • “Sufficient authority for program guidance, evaluation, assessment, and improvement” • Formation of CEN Industrial Advisory Board • Capstone senior-design course • Common 1st and 2nd years for both tracks • Vision for CEN-UG program • Beyond ABET • What are our program goals?

  5. Plans and Action Items • No major restructuring required • Just do what we set out to do 6 years ago • CEN-UG curriculum committee (Chair: H. Lam) • CISE: M. Bermudez, D. Dankel, P. Fishwick • ECE: R. Fox, J. McNair, A. Gordon-Ross • Immediate task: address ABET issues • CEN Industrial Advisory Board • A subset of CISE/ECE IABs • CEN-UG steering committee Consists of faculty members from both departments • Determine long-term vision for CEN-UG program • Define objectives to realize vision • Charge CEN-UG curriculum committee to implement objectives Just kidding 

Conclusions • Short-term priority • Address ABET-related issues • Long-term vision • CEN education must not be static • CEN and world around us changed dramatically in last 12 yrsand will continue to change • Are we educating our computer engineers accordingly? • CEN program has potential to be world-class • Plans to revitalize CEN program • Enable and facilitate active participation from all stakeholders • Best use of CEN program governing structure to support continuous improvement to CEN program
