  4. An International Responsibility • Its watershed encompasses 4 provinces and 2 states. • The majority of the nutrient overload comes via the Red River from the U.S.

  5. The Saskatchewan River • Once the source of 60% of Lake Winnipeg’s water has seen its flow drop 80% due to agricultural use in Alberta and Saskatchewan

  6. Concentrated Livestock Operations • Live stock operations contribute phosphorus output equivalent to 87 million humans • This waste is untreated, seeping into the ground water and eventually to Lake Winnipeg
