  1. Greco-Persian Wars

What Were they? • The Greco-Persian Wars were a series of major conflict between the Greek city states and the Achaemenid empire of Persia. • The conflict started with Lonia, Cyprus, and the Greek city states starting an unsuccessful revolt against the Persian empire which continued to the first Persian invasion.

  3. Why were they important? • These conflicts were important because the wars put Greece bankrupt and Athens was burned as result.

  4. First Persian invasion • It was one of the most magnificent assaults in the ancient world. • Darius made a Pontoon bridge and with lining 700 ships and connecting Asia to Europe. • The Persians reestablished the controll over Thrace and conquered Macedon but was defeated at Marathon.

  5. Second invasion • This war ended with Greek victory Athens burned. To the ground. • The famous battle of thrompyla was fought in this war.

  6. Rest of the wars • Greece counter attacked and reestablished control over all Greece
