The Issue • German children are heavily influenced by the adults and lifestyles around them. • Students see their favorite celebrities on billboards promoting binge drinking. • The percentage of alcohol related deaths has increased amongst youths. • Children are constantly viewing commercials for drinking, on tv, in movies, in the streets and on the internet. • Germany is concerned with frequent binge drinking and the increasing numbers of youth in hospitols.

  3. Solutions • The advertisements of alcohol on youth organization related clothing is now taboo. • The Federal Association of Child and Youth Protection calls on the alcohol industry, not to specifically address "the lifestyle of young people.” • The sale of alcohol to under 16-year-old is prohibited. • Stricter control on the frequency of advertisements related to alcohol has been proposed. • Attempts have been made to remove alcohol advertisements in schools.

  4. Statistics • 30% of all television alcohol commercials are directed at German youth. • Youth who have been exposed to ten or more alcohol commercials are 80% more likely to have had alcohol. • More than 20 percent of teenagers in Germany last year (2011) were drunk at least once a month. • The number of full drunken girls doubled since 2000. • 20 percent more alcohol poisoning than in 2006.
