Recognizing the vital role of the supply chain to Canada's economy, the Council is committed to enhancing the sector's ability to attract and retain workers at all levels and across the full range of functions, and to advancing the skills of those workers." • Current Issues • Hew HR Study Underway – In 2005, the Council published its groundbreaking and foundation-setting document “Strategic Human Resources Study of the Supply Chain Sector” (http://www.supplychaincanada.org/en/sector-study). The study provided the strategic focus for the Council and its related activities. Our Research Committee is in the early stages of launching a follow-up to update the study, and provide current reflections of issues and opportunities for our sector, from an HR perspective. Initial activities include the selection of a contractor, from 10 proposals that were received in response to our RFP. Next steps will involve the development of a work plan and the execution of that plan. The study should result in a more-accurate reflection of the labour market in supply chain, at the granular NOC level, with greater detail on HR issues by industry, which will be more valuable to all of our stakeholders. Supply-side issues around enrollment and placement rates of graduates of education and training programs will also be explored. And finally, a method of forecasting labour-market demand will round off the HR Study Update. Look for further information in our monthly e-bulletins, or feel free to contact Kevin Maynard, at kmaynard@supplychaincanada.org, or Frances Humphreys, Chair of our Research Committee, at fhumphreys@wlu.ca. • Council Delivers Strategic Session to HRSDC – The Council makes an annual presentation to HRSDC on the current state of our sector, current activities that we are engaged in, and planned projects. This year, we proposed one new concept, around the development of a skills-assessment tool that will enable individuals and firms to identify gaps in knowledge, skills and work experience, and point to providers of education and training that can help fill those gaps. The concept was received with interest and the Council will prepare a proposal for consideration in late January. Happy Holidays and All the Best for 2011 From all of us here at the CSCSC, have a safe and happy holiday and a very prosperous new year! Please note that our offices will be closed from noon on December 23 until 9 am on January 4. We will be checking for voicemail and e-mail messages during that time, so if you need to reach us don’t hesitate to get in touch.
