STEM careers in advanced manufacturing, alternative energy, biotechnology, health care, and information technology are on the rise. From 2004 to 2014, STEM job positions are projected to grow by 11.4%, significantly outpacing non-STEM jobs at 4.5%. With 52,000 workers in the Finger Lakes Region alone, STEM occupations offer higher earning potential, averaging $57,084—60% more than the average of $38,280 for all jobs.
