Unlocking STEM Careers: Opportunities in High-Growth Industries

STEM careers in advanced manufacturing, alternative energy, biotechnology, health care, and information technology are on the rise. From 2004 to 2014, STEM job positions are projected to grow by 11.4%, significantly outpacing non-STEM jobs at 4.5%. With 52,000 workers in the Finger Lakes Region alone, STEM occupations offer higher earning potential, averaging $57,084—60% more than the average of $38,280 for all jobs.   2. STEM Careers… Will grow faster than the average for all jobs *STEM related careers will enjoy an 11.4% increase in positions from 2004-2014. *Non-STEM related careers will have a 4.5% increase in positions from 2004-2014.

  3. STEM Careers *STEM skills are required by 8 percent of all jobs in the region *The Finger Lakes Region currently employs 52,000 workers (114 job titles) in the STEM field
