Main characteristics _takes place in companies + vocational schools _typically 3 years (can be 2 or up to 4 years) _apprenticeship curricula officially approved _apprenticeship company approved by social partners _apprenticeship contract = specific form of employment contract _ differentiated wage levels _ shared financing Dual Apprenticeship

Early school leavers Main characteristics _8.3% of 18-24 age group (2010), female 8.2%, male 8.4% _ regional factors: double risk in cities _educational heritage: risk lower for youth from well educated parents _migration factor: quadruple risk for youth with migrant background, double risk for second and third generation _type of education: 42% drop out in higher secondary vocational schools; 22% in higher education, 30% in apprenticeships

  12. Upper Austria _ the most industrialised region in Austria, with about 16% of the national population, Upper Austria provides 25% of total national exports. Two-thirds go to the Member States of the European Union. _active labour market policy has facilitated an unemployment rate of 3,7% in 2010, which means 7th rank amongst EU regions; the youth unemployment rate was 6,7% (also 7th)
