  2. Background/Intro • A SAP is a polymer than can absorb large amounts of water • SAP’s are usually made of sodium polyacrylate • Biodegradable superabsorbent hydrogels derived from cellulose by esterification crosslinking with 1,2,3,4-butanetetracarboxylic dianhydride

  3. Intro • Why Glycerol? • Cheap • Higher Ion density (~2-3 ions/molecule) • Green • Less or no acrylic used (than acrylic SAP)
