Our school institution Agrupamento de Escolas de Odivelas nº1 results from the aggregation of the previous Group of Pontinha Schools with the Secondary School Braamcamp Freire, on May 3, 2013. • Its located in Pontinha, Odivelas Parish County, a part of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, with about 24023 inhabitants. This area is mainly a Lisbon suburb inhabited by employees and lower middle class, who work in Lisbon.

Within its limits, there are some poor neighbourhoods inhabited, in general, by a population of lower economic resources, low education and culture, with few school expectations, some marginality problems and a great number of people coming foreign countries. • A considerable number of students come from PALOP (African Countries), Brazil, China and Eastern European countries which makes our students a heterogeneous school population, in terms of cultures and values. • Our institution consistes of several partner institutions: a nursery school, seven Primary Schools, a Junior High School (Escola Básica da Pontinha) and a Secondary School (Escola Secundária Braamcamp Freire). This school year, the school population adds up to about 2823 students. 645 of them attend Junior High School of Pontinha.

All schools have a school library, a gymnasium, a canteen and an outdoor playground. • At Secondary School there are laboratories rooms, ICT rooms and Computer workshop, Exhibitions room / museum, workshop and Electrical laboratory rooms. • At Junior High School we have a Play room, laboratory and ICT rooms. The existence of a large number of students with Special Education Needs, forced to implement some measures on class organization and allocation of specialized resources, such as a Special Education Service and a Psychology Service. Our schools have also implemented educational support activities for students who have learning difficulties. We have also provided special Portuguese language classes for foreign students. • The guidelines determined in the context of the training offers, head to address the detected disabilities, lack of interest, early school leaving (ESL) and school failure through the creation of different curricula, such as: Alternative Curriculum Project (PCA), Specific Curriculum (CEI), Integrated Program for Education and Training (PIEF), Courses for Education and Training (CEF-SA) or Courses for Adult Education and Training (EFA). • The students are also aided by EPIS Businessmen For Social Inclusion project.
