  1. Boones Creek Middle School Green Team 2010-11

  2. Beginning the Year • Review of SEAT Training for returning students • Information and training of the new 5th grade members and additional members for the 7th and 8th grade teams

  3. Teacher In-service • After an in-service training for the teachers provided by Jennifer Alldredge and the Green Team members, several teachers have focused on ideas to help reduce energy use in their classrooms by checking lighting needs, turning off computers nightly, and unplugging items when not in use. • The BCMS Green Team worked in small groups to show teachers the differences in the incandescent and CFL light bulbs, how to determine lighting needs through the use of the foot-candle meter, and the heat generated by the two types of light bulbs.

  4. BCMS Fall Festival Nov. 2010 • The Green Team helped to educate students, families, and community members during the BCMS Fall Festival. • Demonstrations of energy use and suggestions for possible changes within the home were discussed. • Adults were encouraged to participate in the on-line Home Evaluation process to help determine their energy use and ideas for reducing their energy needs and energy costs.

  5. BCMS Green Team Efforts • The 8th grade students are working on the BCMS Weebly site for the Green Team. All members are to be searching for ideas, interactive Web sites, and pertinent information that will interest the BCMS students.

  6. BCMS Green Team Efforts • Students have been checking out the lighting situations in the hallways and the classrooms. They have helped to suggest to teachers that natural lighting and/or limited lighting is sufficient in the classrooms. • Students have helped to encourage the classes to turn off computers and computer monitors when not in use.

  7. BCMS Green Team Efforts • The team is reviewing energy resources materials in order to develop a “Green” section for our school library. The students decided that the information on energy conservation should be made available to all students.

  8. BCMS Green Team Efforts • A project currently in planning stages is “The Two Degree Pledge Project” that will involve teachers in the classrooms, the BCMS students, and the community.

  9. BCMS Green Team Efforts • The team plans to develop and present energy efficiency programs for the Boones Creek Elementary School.
