The London LGBT Voluntary and Community Sector Almanac – 1st Edition The aim of the Almanac is to provide up-to-date statistical and strategic information about the diverse LGBT voluntary and community sector (VCS) in London, so that LGBT voluntary and community organisations (VCOs) can envision their strategic context and access an information base for planning and development; and so that diverse LGBT organisations, funders and infrastructure can argue for better resources.

  3. Total Sector Income and Expenditure Income: £9,155,020 (48% of national income) Expenditure: £8,477,662 99.6% of income was spent against expenditure (UK VCS 93%)

  5. Total Sector Income 0.03% of UK VCS income 0.06% of London VCS income Given the size of the London LGBT population, (10%), this is a very small percentage!

  9. Expenditure The percentage income, against total income, achieved by the LGBT VCS, across almost every category of income, is lower than that achieved within the mainstream VCS LGBT VCS has a disproportionately low return on its investment in fundraising, and is spending less on it

  10. Staff and Volunteers • In London the majority (53%) of LGBT organisations do not have paid staff (23% of national sample) • Staff/volunteer ratio is 1:4.9 • Overall, in a calendar month, the London LGBT VCS benefits from approximately 8,455 volunteer hours

  11. Future Outlook • 34% of organisations felt that their general situation would improve in the coming 12 months, compared with 17% of charity leaders in the most recent National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) Charity Forecast survey, conducted during the same time period as the Almanac Questionnaire • Just 19% felt that it would worsen compared to 57% of charity leaders
