  1. SURAgrid Teaching Lab • Grid-based environment for teachers and students to learn about using grids, developing grids • Accessible through a SURAgrid teaching portal • Access to guaranteed level of functionality and support, with burst over to (best effort) additional resources • Various levels of access • Possibly something like…Trusted Teacher”, Newbie Teacher”, Student developer, Student user • Or how best to delineate? • Learn more as we define particular course requirements

  2. Potential Use • Portal-based grid access for hands-on practice and instruction (lab assignments and in-class) • Sharing of course prep, management and communication tools, repository of materials, possibly linked to conferencing capability • Development/delivery of shared courses across institutions, particularly to support: • Courses where participation is too low to deliver at a single institution • Topics where instructional expertise is limited & distributed • Expanded access for underrepresented or atypical users of grids • “Research Institute” - involving students in collaborative research teams to work on grid development or use in specific fields • Promote advancement of grid use in targeted application areas • Immediate contributions to grid development (fresh perspectives) • Train the next generation in collaborative work styles and topics critical to developing, deploying or supporting grid technology.

  3. Immediate Use • Barry Wilkinson, UNCC (Grad & Undergrad CS) • Amy Apon, UArk (Undergrad CS) • Jerry Perez, TTU (Undergrad CS) • Others?

  4. Process & Timeline • Plan to begin using … Fall 06 Semester? • Document requirements for lab functionality as deployed in current courses (technology, policy, support), readiness of SURAgrid today to support this, and what would need to be changed or developed before first debut • Document “Wish list” for next level functionality; plan for how to fund (proposal development? student fee of some type?)
