  1. Issues October 17

  2. 10-minute meeting norms • 10-minute meetings are for ETA members. If you are sharing union work or issues, this meeting should be attended by ETA members only. You should politely ask your building admin to leave the meeting when you begin. • The 10 minutes are to occur during the 80 minutes of staff time. Make sure that your building SIP team include the time in your agenda for the meeting.

  3. Parent/Teacher Conferences •  15.22 Parent Conferences • The Parent/Teacher conference day session may be five (5) hours or two (2) hours anytime during the normal school business conference day with the understanding that, comparable time for conferences for the remaining three (3) hours may be done in the following manner: • a) Conferences held the prior evening between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.; unless • b) An alternative school-wide evening conference is designated during the conference week through the determination of the School/Department Committee, provided that the conferences are held between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

  4. 9.9 of the Elgin Agreement • 9.9 ASSOCIATION REPRESENTATION DURING TEACHER DISCIPLINE • A teacher shall be entitled to have present an Association representative when the teacher is being reprimanded, warned, disciplined, or dismissed, excluding informal criticisms or suggestions for improvement which do not form the basis of formal action. When a request for such representation is made, no action shall be taken with respect to the teacher until such Association representative is present. Requests from administrators to teachers to attend such a meeting or conference shall be in writing and shall include the purpose of the meeting.

  5. Representation rights • Our members have the right to representation, but they must request representation. Administration does not have to advise the member of their right to representation, the member must request. • Once the request has been made, the employer can chose to proceed or not. If they proceed then the association may file a ULP. • A member has the right to waive their right to representation, but the Association does not advise that. • Law guarantees the right to “a” representative of your choosing, not “the” representative of your choosing. • The administration does not have the right to pick the union representative for the member.

  6. Call me immediately!! • DCFS investigations • Criminal allegations • Sexual harassment or inappropriate touching • Assault on an employee • Member to member concerns, including harassment concerns • Workers compensation, discrimination, unemployment concerns
