What is an online database? • An online database is a proprietary collection of records or data stored on a computer that can be accessed/searched by users via the Internet. • The information in these databases can be original content or it can come from sourcessuch as newspapers, magazines, academic journals, encyclopedias, reference books, etc. • Information in databases goes through an editorial process that information found on the Internet does not.

  4. Databases - what’s in them ? • Recent News/Articles • Research analyses • Business / Industry /Financial Data • Company Histories • Annual Reports • SWOT Analyses • MUCH MORE

  5. Which Library Databases to Use? Business Insights: Global- company and industry information, articles, SWOTS; ABI / Inform Complete (Proquest) - articles, reports; Plunkett Research -industry analysis, statistical data, industry associations, contact information, links to websites ; Mergent - U.S. & international company data and reports; Academic Search Premier - research articles, reports; Lexis-Nexis Academic - articles, SWOTS, reports, legal resources and more; IBISWorld – industry reports;

  7. TIP Before you commit to strategy/company, PLEASE perform a quick search in at least one of the databases to make sure you can find useful material.
