  1. CBM Simulation WGProgress since Jan ‘03 • Work on simulations: • D meson detection (GSI) • PID: Tof vs. Calo vs. Rich (Heidelberg, Moscow) • Tracking: local vs. global (Dubna, Heidelberg, Mannheim) • electron rates in Si tracker (GSI) • Validation of Virtual Monte Carlo (D. Bertini, GSI) VMC = framework permitting to use interchangeably • GEANT4 • GEANT3 Common geometry! • FLUKA  CBM Collaboration Meeting III

  2. Conclusion from 1st CBM Meeting:Feasibility studies urgently needed! • Work out detailed physics program • To do detailed detector design studies • Technical proposal: end 2004 • open charm D0, D± in progress • particle ID (lep./had.) started • tracking/vertex fitting started • 2nd and 3rd level trigger started • J/ (inc. ee vs. ) to be done! • low-mass dileptons ,, to be done! • multi-strange baryons to be done! CBM Collaboration Meeting III

  3. Simulation working packages • D mesons (signal/bkgd, resolution, rates) • Charmonium (signal/bkgd, resolution, rates) ! • Low-mass vector mesons (signal/bkgd, rates) ! • Hyperons (signal/bkgd, rates) ! • Tracking/vertex fits in field (algorithm, performance) • PID (leptons vs. hadrons) • 2nd and 3rd level triggers (fast algorithms) • Simulation framework (VMC) CBM Collaboration Meeting III

  4. Road map 2003 • Do quick-and-dirty physics studies • Develop tracking concept • In parallel: design VMC framework (VMC) • geometry and media • event model • analysis • Implement CBM fully in VMC (fall 2003) • Do full simulations (spring 2004) CBM Collaboration Meeting III
