  7. How do we help? • Provide support if there are difficulties at school • Offer advice if there are problems • Meet with teachers and parents if there are any concerns • Track academic development and co-curricular involvements • Reward when things are going well!

  10. Role of the Tutor • Oversees the academic, social and emotional needs of members of the tutor group • Daily contact with students • Tutor groups are maintained until the end of Year 11 • Conduct 1-2-1 tutoring sessions • Primary contact for parents • firstname.lastname@wis.edu.hk

  11. 1-2-1 Tutoring • On opportunity for your child to meet individually with their tutor • Develops a positive relationship with an adult at school • Follows a structured programme over the course of the year • Encourages a reflective approach to development and learning

  12. Assembly • An important part of developing the school community • Focused around key areas and needs • Provides an opportunity to develop ideas and discussions

  13. Curriculum • The Middle Years Diploma • A holistic approach to education • The Diploma will be awarded upon successful completion in Year 11

  14. Reporting • Reports will be available online and updated regularly • There will be four check points during the course of the year • Parent evenings and student led conferences during the year • Results are closely monitored to ensure progress is made at an appropriate level

  15. Creativity, Action and Service • A key element of the Middle Years Diploma • All students are required to complete a CAS programme as part of the MYD • A large focus will be placed on developing service amongst the student body

Year 7 Camp • Tendering process for the 2012 camp was done with 3 major camp providers in Hong Kong • Treasure Island best matched learning outcomes with value for money spent • Key Focus: Tutors and tutees develop a strong connection through reflective activities and games played together • 2011 rating of overall student enjoyment and satisfaction = 8 out of 10 (based on 85 students)

Key Learning Outcomes Creativity: • Creativity achieved through learning new camping skills and problem solving exercises • Development of student leadership Action: • Fun and exciting activities: Abseiling, rock climbing, orienteering, hiking, and other engaging activities Service: • Environmentally focussed through Coastal Clean and ecological games
