  2. OVERVIEW About G.SHDSL • G.SHDSL was standardized in February 2001 internationally by ITU-T with recommendation G.991.2. • G.SHDSL features symmetrical data rates from 192Kbps to 2304Kbps in 64Kbps increments for single pair copper. • G.SHDSL features symmetrical data rates from 384Kbps to 4608Kbps in 128Kbps increments for two pair copper. • G.shdsl incorporates rate adaptability from SDSL and the TC PAM modulation technique from HDSL-2, hence the “sh” in the name.

  3. OVERVIEW DSL Technology

  4. WireSpan 5350 Specification • 4 port 10/100M Base T, 1 G.SHDSL port and 1 port V.35 DB25 connector • Support ITU G.991.2 (G.SHDSL), G.SHDSL.bis • Supports Symmetric Data Rate of up to 2.3 Mbps (G.SHDSL), 5.6 Mbps (G.SHDSL.bis). • Support Bridged/Routed Ethernet over ATM • Support FRF.8 “Frame Relay/ATM Service Inter-Working” • Web-based configuration and monitoring. • Routing function. • NAT, DHCP function • Interoperable with all major DSLAM equipment.

  5. Hardware Connection

  6. Network Termination Point Network InterWorking Function (NIW): FRF.5Service InterWorking Function (SIW): FRF.8.1

  7. NIW and SIW functionalities NIW and SIW functionalities are two interworking modes between an ATM network and a Frame-Relay network:ATM Adaptation Layer 5 (AAL5).

  9. DSLAM Multiservice Frame-Relay DTE Serial SHDSL STM1 ATMNetwork ATM-CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) Service InterWorking Function

  10. Frame-Relay standard Multiservice devices can be connected to Frame-Relay routers which are consistent with IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) RFC2427 (Request For Comments) standard: Encapsulation Frame-Relay IETF

  11. Frame-Relay DTE (Branch n.2) Frame-Relay DTE (Branch n.1) Frame-Relay nodes Frame-Relay DTE (Branch n.3) Frame-Relay DTE (Central Bank) Frame-Relay network

  13. Frame-Relay DTE (Central Bank) Local Management Interface A Frame-Relay interface uses LMI protocol in order to check integrity connection and to give/receive information about the status of each DLCI Network (!!!) User (???) DLCI = 564 Frame-Relay network access node
