Innovative Pearl-coli: Eco-Friendly CO2 Conversion to Pearl Powder by Engineered E. coli

The iGEM team from Korea University Seoul has developed a groundbreaking system called "Pearl-coli," utilizing genetically engineered Escherichia coli to convert CO2 into pearl powder. This research aims to address global warming by reducing carbon emissions while innovatively creating nacre, the material from which pearls are formed. The project includes the design and testing of a carbonic anhydrase to inhibit CaCO3 precipitation, contributing to potential sustainable solutions in environmental science.
