  2. History The development of the concepts in hospital architecture last 4 decades Breitfuss Comb Passage Terminal Paviljon Strategy in design 1: a grid structure for all possible functions 2: simple pavilions can easily be replaced 3: sustainability by one big roof Examples Deventer hospital, Deventer Bernhoven hospital, Uden Maas en Kempen hospital, Maaseik (B) Sint Antonius Utrecht hospital, Utrecht

  3. comb The classical concept: Functions with a own structure. Stacked and mixed. Adaptable, expandable, rebound and if there is space, in the future each building and function is replaceable. But internal flexibility is a domino system

  4. Waterland Ziekenhuis Purmerend

  5. Based on historical concepts: from a passage concept which is closed in itself, to a street concept, all departements are showing itself, to a developing structure as a: Terminal concept, one roof with multi functions, and a front/back office philosophy for all departements .

  6. pavilion Wards (Hotel) Research and treatment (Hot Floor) Policlinic and services (offices and factory) A real estate philisophy (not only the the program and organization of the plan but also the finacial investment and the long-term operation are leading and important for the concept) Hospital functions in four categories Hotel, Hotfloor, Factory and Offices. Each building type optimalized to the building structure, technical services and lifetime. specific flexibility and expansion gradually building.

  7. treestructure There is only one way to come from A to B , clear but inflexible matrixstructure there is a lot of circulation space to reach a flexible structure for now and the future a matrix is more flexible than a tree structure more alternative routes in a matrix organisation
