Remaining Paper and Pencil Assessments • California Standards Tests for Science - Grades 5, 8, and 10 • California Modified Assessment for Science - Grades 5, 8, and 10 • California Alternate Performance Assessment: • ELA and Mathematics – Grades 2 through 11 • Science - Grades 5, 8, and 10 • Early Assessment Program – Grade 11 • ELA – Grade 11 • Algebra II or High School Summative Mathematics – Grade 11 • Students who completed Algebra II or higher mathematics courses but who are not currently enrolled in a mathematics course.

Important Point to Know • Testing materials are still confidential and must be kept secure at all times. • As in the past, materials will arrive on campus and must be immediately placed in your school’s secure location. • Materials must be counted for two purposes: • To compare the ETS inventory sheets to the actually materials received. Discrepancies must be reported to Roger Yoho (951-736-5143 and/or ryoho@cnusd.k12.ca.us) • To make sure you have enough materials for testing on your campus. Contact Roger Yoho’s office is additional materials are needed. Please note that it takes at least four business days to order and receive additional materials.

Important Points to Know • Testing materials must be kept secure at all times. • As in the past, please have materials go out to classrooms just before testing starts each day of testing and returned immediately after testing is completed. • Please have materials counted … • Before they leave your secure room. • Before they leave the classroom. • After they return to the secure location. • As in the past, the State will randomly select schools for audits. If your school is selected, please make sure you notify Roger Yoho’s office.

  12. CNUSD 2014 Testing Windows Please do not schedule SBAC field testing on the following dates: - April 10-11, 2014 - May 8-9, 2014 Reason: The SBAC field test web site will be down on those dates.

Grades 3–8: All students Grade 11: Students _________________________________________________ The only students exempted from participating in the Field Test are as follows: Students participating in the California Alternate Performance Assessment (CAPA) English Learners who have been attending school in the United States for less than 12 months will not take the SBAC ELA field test. However, they do take the SBAC math field test. Who will take SBAC Field Tests?

  14. - 5% of students will take Field Test items from one content area (ELA or mathematics) . 95% of students will take Field Test items from both content areas. All students will receive one Performance Task (PT) in either ELA or mathematics. - There is roughly same amount of testing time for all students. - Content areas will be assigned by grade and school level. - Content area assignments will be available in March (projected availability, 3/10). Which field tests will they take?

Example 1: Elementary School X - Grade 3 was assigned a single content area (ELA), which includes an ELA performance task. - Grade 4 was assigned both ELA and math, with a mathematics performance task. - Grade 5 was assigned both ELA and math, with an ELA performance task. Example 2: High School Y - Grade 11 was selected to participate and is taking a single content area (math), which includes a math performance task. - Grade 11 assigned ELA and math with an ELA performance task. Resources (Continued) Training Tests - Released on January 30, 2014. - Available by grade band (3–5, 6–8, and high school) - There are 6–8 items per content area per grade band - Allow students to experience interface features and functionality. - Do not include PTs or scoring guides. - LEAs are highly encouraged to have teachers and students access the Training Test Site before the FT. - Teachers are encouraged to conduct a group walk- through with students.

  27. Next Steps • As much as possible, please have students practice on the computer with either the SBAC practice test or training test before they engage with the field test. 2. Headphones were purchased for schools and they should arrive before March 18, 2014. 3. Information is changing and improving consistently. I will be sending our “Flash” messages as updates as we go. 4. Select, with your principal’s approval, a TIDE Site Coordinator and arrange for her or him to attend one of the TIDE training sessions.

  29. Next Steps • The new State CAASPP regulations require schools to submit a plan to the District CAASPP Coordinator on how they plan to complete Smarter Balanced assessments. After your plan is approved by your principal, please submit your school’s plan to Roger Yoho so the two of you can discuss it. Thank you. 6. Your school’s plan should include what additional employee assistance you will need. It is absolutely critical that we use a little additional assistance as possible.
