  1. The Good, The Bad And The Ugly Of The Landscaping Industry. Find Out If You Have Been Duped By Your Current Provider. The lawn care industry is notorious for having young, inexperienced “business owners” and a high turnover rate. This is great for customers,’ right? It means competitive pricing and big savings. But could it also mean you, as the consumer, will end up paying much more than you bargained for in the end?Scott, owner and operator of Texas Lawnscapes LLC in McKinney, TX sees it all too often in his area. “Some prices are simply too good to be true. More often than not, those “rock bottom” prices are fueled by companies not paying insurance premiums and not spending the money to properly train their employees. This can lead to injuries and big financial woes by the unsuspecting customer."

  2. Texas Lawnscapes LLC carries a $2 million insurance policy to protect their customers from any responsibility due to damages and/or injuries that occur on their property. These can be as minor as a broken window due to a rock being kicked up by a weed-eater, to a more serious injury such as an employee cutting a finger off on a mower blade. These insurance policies average $3,000 a year. Not cheap. And not something every guy off the street with a mower can afford. So what can you do to protect yourself? Ask questions. A reputable company will not be offended if you ask for proof of insurance. Again, insurance is expensive. It is much cheaper to print off a business card or flyer, claiming to be insured, than to actually pay for the insurance coverage. In some cases, companies carry a minimal amount of insurance that realistically, wouldn't cover more than a broken sprinkler head. Some companies sign up for coverage and pay their first insurance payment to get the certificate. Then they let their policy expire and try to pass the expired certificate off as good.

  3. Bottom line? Get a current copy of their insurance certificate directly from their insurance company. Landscaping is one of the most hired out jobs and also one of the most dangerous because of the extreme heights, heavy equipment and sharp tools that come along with it. Protect yourself by doing your research. Hire a company that is insured and has skilled, trained employees. You may pay a little more up front, but it could save you BIG in the end.About the company: Based in McKinney, TX and servicing all of Collin County, Texas Lawnscapes is a family owned and operated, lawn and landscape company.
