Executive Summary • Public School Districts in California are required to implement California Healthy Youth Act that includes (EC51930-519391) Comprehensive Sexual Health and HIV Prevention education at least once in middle school and once in high school. • Programs that meet California Healthy Youth Act (CHYA) requirements: • Teen Talk • Used by many San Joaquin County Districts • On display at the District Office • Recommendation approved by Curriculum Council • District received many concerns regarding Teen Talk. Other programs were suggested. • HEART - does not meet state requirements • Check the Facts – unavailable to review • Options for Next Steps • Bring Teen Talk to Board as Action Item November 5, 2019 • Ensures compliance by 2020 • Curriculum Adoption Committee continue to research and review programs • District develop curriculum that meets all CHYA requirements
