CSE 3: Fluency/Information Technology Projects By: Lillian Chen Introduction Fluency and Information Technology was a course that instructed the fundamental skills of coding with HTML, Java, the proper presentation of information using PowerPoint, Excel, and visual programming with Alice. Desktop Publishing with MS Word Making Information Available to the World with HTML and Web Pages Presentation of Information with MS PowerPoint We learned about and used file structures and advanced features of Microsoft Word to create a Word document of our Career Plan in college. This included a table of contents, bibliography, adding photos and text boxes, and designing a document. By gathering data from the stock of certain companies, we were able to analyze and compare the performances of the different stocks using Microsoft PowerPoint. In PowerPoint we learned how to properly and cleanly display data in tables and charts. Here we learned to use HTML code on Notepad++ and created a home page Career Profile. We also learned how to make absolute and relative links to different web pages as well as changes in webpage style, font and color. Finally we used the Secure File Transfer Client to make the webpages available online. Visual Programming with Alice Data Analysis and Visual with MS Excel Dynamic Webpage Programming with JavaScript Here we learned some basic programming with Alice. Alice is a program where one can create a virtual world with different settings, characters, actions, and dialogues. We learned how to create worlds, use methods, parameters, and loops. In this lab we learned about the properties and functions of Microsoft Excel including mathematical functions, data organization in tables and displaying data in graphs and charts. We used these skills to compile our annual budget based on our desired career income. We were introduced to JavaScript as well as learned JavaScript coding. We also learned and used variables, assignments, operators, and conditional statements. With JavaScript we made interactive web pages to buy shirts and play games.
