The Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) reports that Warwick Schools are underutilized, particularly Aldrich and Gorton facilities, which require major renovations. A facilities review aims to evaluate options for better utilization. Key factors include enrollment history, building condition, resources such as libraries and gyms, and operating costs. Consolidation models are considered, with potential options ranging from closing a junior high and a high school to repurposing existing facilities. The review seeks to balance budget constraints with modernization needs and community impact.

Evaluation Check List • Review Options • Enrollment History & Projection • Logistics – Site, Location, Building Condition, Parking Spaces, etc. • Resources – Cafeteria, Kitchen, Auditorium, Gymnasium, Library – Size & Condition, etc. • Athletic Field Condition • Capital Improvements – Required Maintenance of Each Building • Operating Costs • Number of Classrooms – Size & Condition • Classroom Utilization – Periods Used, Number of Students per class, etc. • Tour of Each School • Evaluate Consolidation Models
Options Reviewed Option A – Build a new secondary complex. Costly – No funding – Not feasible Option B – Consolidate Aldrich in Pilgrim and Gorton into Veterans. Age difference too big between grades 7 to 12 – A Middle School model would not be feasible for several years. Option C – Close a Junior High School and a High School, consolidating into the remains secondary buildings. A larger school would be closed – Consolidating into remaining Junior High Schools would be tight – A Middle School model would not be feasible for several years. Option D – Consolidate High Schools into two schools. Then consolidate Aldrich and Gorton into repurposed High School and Winman. High School Students and Sports Teams will be affected.
