The NUMA-CIC (pronounced “numa-kick”) is a revolutionary design for low-latency, scalable cache-coherent shared memory interconnects specifically for high-volume server boards. This proposal aims to create a proof-of-concept prototype resource for PRACE WP9 that integrates both distributed memory and system-wide cache-coherent large shared memory using NumaConnect technology, exceeding multiple terabytes. This prototype will support message passing and ensure seamless scaling within a shared memory programming paradigm, paving the way for affordable and scalable SMP systems.

NUMAScale Cache-coherent Inter-Connect for exascale clusters NUMA-CIC (pronounced “numa-kick”) Proposal PRACE WP9 – Emerging Technologies Prototype Hans Eide, PhD. USIT Research Computing Services Group.
Return of the SMP system, affordable and scalable this time Key objectives • A break-through design allows low latency, scalable, directory based Cache Coherent Shared Memory interconnect of high volume manufactured server boards, to be used as building blocks for systems with features that are only found in the high-end enterprise capability systems. • The proposal is to build a proof-of-concept prototype resource based on this emerging technology for PRACE WP9. • To deploy a prototype cluster comprising both distributed-memory and system-wide cache-coherent large shared memory (multiple TeraBytes) based on NumaConnect technology. • The prototype will offer message passing as well as seamless scaling with the shared memory programming paradigm
