5. I’m Ms. Wells, and I love… Teaching This is my third year teaching sixth grade here at Olde Towne Middle School. I am so excited to teach each of you and for our wonderful year ahead! Traveling I enjoy venturing all over our beautiful country. Some of my favorite trips have been to California, the beaches in Florida, and visiting friends in St. Louis, Missouri. I also had the chance to live in Europe for six months while in College. Cooking One relaxing hobby which I appreciate is cooking and baking. Trying and experimenting with new recipes is a challenging, yet tasty activity! Sports Not only am I a huge fan of the New Orleans Saints and St. Louis Cardinals, but I grew up playing sports. Today one of my favorite hobbies is to run for fun. I completed my first marathon in Nashville this past April.

6. I believe that for this year to be successful both socially and academically, we must all follow important expectations.

7. Expectations What should you do when you arrive at school each day? • Walk silently and directly to your homeroom which is your 1stblock class on A day and your 5th block class on B day. • If your teacher is present, enter and sit in your assigned seat and read a book. • If your teacher is not at the door, sit silently in the hallway until he/she arrives. Sit by your teacher’s door against the wall and read silently.

8. In the morning after you arrive to your class, what if you … need to use the bathroom? • You must ask your teacher. • You must have a pass. • You must return ASAP! want to go the library? • You must ask your teacher. • You must have a pass. • Sign in at the library. • Return ASAP.

9. Turn and remind your elbow partner what you should do when you arrive at school.

10. Bell Ringer Expectations 1. Read the side board to determine what the bell ringer activity is each day. Then… Pick up your either the bell ringer mini-lesson handout or your reading packet from the table. • Write the date on the first available line and answer the test prep questions on the handout, OR respond to the writing prompt in your notebook or the handout provided. • Do not put away the bell ringer until told to do so. • Be prepared to share your answers or read your written response. • Bell ringer will be collected by your teacher.

11. Let’s PracticeLine up silently outside by my door.Walk in and pick up a reading packet.Write today’s date, 8/4/16, and your name at top of page.Read the questions only. Underline the key words to each question.Discuss your responses as a class.We will collect these later in today’s lesson.

12. Ms. Wells needs our attention. Now what? There will be two ways that I will get your attention. “1-2-3…Clap, Clap, Clap” • I will count 1-2-3. • You will clap three times and become silent. • Eyes on me! “Give Me Five” • I will raise my hand and say, “Give me five.” • When you see my hand up, you should raise your hand, look at me, and close your mouth. Let’s Practice.

13. How do I get Ms. Wells’attention? If you have a question that is vital or pertinent to the lesson, RAISE YOUR HAND AND HOLD UP ONE FINGER. 1 If you need a tissue, RAISE YOUR HAND AND HOLD UP TWO FINGERS. 2 If you need to use the bathroom (only after I have taught the lesson), RAISE YOUR HAND AND HOLD UP THREE FINGERS. 3 THERE WILL NEVER BE A REASON TO YELL OUT ANSWERS OR SPEAK WITHOUT PERMISSION. I WILL OFTEN RANDOMLY CALL ON YOU…BE PREPARED TO ANSWER.

14. WHAT IF I NEED TO… SHARPEN MY PENCIL? THROW AWAY TRASH? KEEP YOUR GARBAGE ON YOUR DESK OR UNDER YOUR DESK. DISPOSE OF TRASH ON YOUR WAY OUT AT THE END OF CLASS. PENCILS MAY ONLY BE SHARPENED AT THE BEGINNING OF CLASS. PENCILS MAY BE PURCHASED FOR $0.25 AT THE BEGINNING OF CLASS ONLY!

15. Turning in Assignments or Tests • Homework or Classwork – When told to do so, place your paper in your class’ slot in the black tray. • Tests – Turn your test into your class’ slot in the black tray, unless told to do otherwise. • Let’s Practice.

16. Practice Using the Black Tray Sorter • When your row is called, stand and move to find your class’ black tray. • Turn your bell ringer into the correct slot. • There is absolutely no talking while doing this! • Return to your desk silently.

17. “Ms. Wells, may I use the bathroom?” Typically, my answer to this question will be “NO,” so ask ONLY in an emergency. Raise three fingers and ask first, BUT… • Do not ask to use the bathroom while I am teaching or talking. • Do not ask to use the bathroom if someone else is out of the room. • Take the yellow pass and wear it around your neck while out. • Please return the pass.

18. So you miss a lot of school…yikes! If you are absent, you should do the following: • Check my web page. At the end of the day, I post our daily activities and homework on the school’s web page. • Upon your return, ask me at the beginning of class for your missed work, and I will direct you to the “Make-up Work” folders. The work you missed will be in the pocket of the day you missed with your name on it. • You will have three days to make-up your work, including tests. DO NOT EXPECT ME TO REMIND YOU!!!!

19. Chrome Book OTMS Webpage Navigation • 1. Type in the URL www.otmstitans.com • Click on the “Teachers” tab at the top. Find WELLS, ALLISON at the bottom of the page under “W.” • On the left-hand side of the page, click “2016-2017 Daily Agenda and Homework.” • Read today’s agenda. • If you have a computer at home, share it with a parent and bookmark the page.

20. “Ms. Wells, I forgot my homework.” HOMEWORK IS DUE THE DAY AFTER IT IS ASSIGNED. I see you each day, so your work is due TOMORROW! IF YOU FAIL TO DO YOUR HOMEWORK, YOU FAIL THAT ASSIGNMENT. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS. IF A PROJECT OR FORMAL ESSAY IS NOT TURNED IN ON TIME, 10 POINTS WILL BE DEDUCTED FOR EACH DAY THAT IT IS LATE.

21. Should you not have your materials or homework … You will be asked to complete and return a “Student Responsibility Card.” This form is pink. You will complete the form and return it to Ms. Wells’ basket on the front table.

22. Cell Phone Policy You May… • Use your cell phone before and after school OUTSIDE of the building. • Use it AFTER SCHOOL extracurricular activities. You MAY NOT… • Use it in the HALLWAYS at any time. • Use it in the RESTROOMS at any time. • Use it AT LUNCH. • Use it DURING ASSEMBLIES.

23. If I use my phone during the school day… 1st Offense: Office Referral 2nd Offense: In School Suspension 3rd Offense: Out of School Suspension Your parent must pick up your phone from an administrator if it is taken up! See it ~ Hear it ~ LOSE IT!

24. Dismissal Procedure We work bell to bell. What does this mean to you? Therefore, do not start packing up prior to the bell since the teacher dismisses you - not the bell!
