Details of Switzerland…. • The population in 2009 was 7,731,167 • In 2010 it was 7.8 million • Switzerland has 4 national languages: German, French, Italian, Rumantsch • The Swiss climate is not as cold as people normally think, though the highest peaks of the Alps can get snow year-round. There are no extremes of hot and cold, so the country can be visited at any time of year. It’s basically the mountainous character of Switzerland that’s responsible for the spectacular differences in the climate of different regions.

  4. Details continued…. • Popular foods.. Switzerland is known for Swiss chocolates, Swiss Cheese and many local specialties, including Fondue, a dish made of melted cheese. • Popular music includes swiss folklore music, but also ranges to country and western to pop and jazz.

Historical Facts ……. • Switzerland is a small country situated in the heart of Central Europe and shares a lot of it's history and of it's culture (four national languages spoken in different regions) with it's neighbours Germany, France, Italy and Austria • In 1291 there was a league of cantons in the Holy Roman Empire. • In 1648 the Treaty of Westaphalia gave Switzerland its Independence from the Holy Roman Empire.
