  1. Pablo Picasso

  2. Pablo Ruiz Picasso was born on October 25, 1881

  3. Picasso is thought to be one of the most important artists of all time. He was born in Malaga, Spain.

  4. These are some family photos of Picasso:

  5. Picasso had trouble learning as a child. He had dyslexia. • He was frustrated with school and liked to doodle in class. • Picasso was so talented that he had his first art show at the age of 13. • This painting was in his show.

  6. Although Pablo Picasso is best known for his creative, colorful, fun and silly style of art…

  7. …his first art designs were more serious and less colourful.

  8. By 1900, his art started to take on new interesting colours.

  9. Blue is usually used to create a very somber mood. The creation of the following paintings were from Picasso’s feelings after the death of a good friend. This was compounded by the fact that he was still a young man (only in his teens!) and living away from home for the first time. When Picasso heard of his friend’s death, he was very, very sad. Picasso found himself only able to paint in blues. • We call this his Blue Period.

  10. What do we call an art design that is all tints, tones, and shades of one colour? monochromatic

  11. Tint is a colour mixed with white. Shade is a colour mixed with black.

  12. Picasso had mixed feelings.

  13. By 1905 he began working in rose colours (pinks and rosy oranges) as well. We call this time in his life the Rose Period. At this time, he began to sell some paintings and earn money. • What family of colours are shown here?

  14. But, by 1907 Picasso entirely changed his style. He began looking at African Art.He took ideas from tribal masks and African culture, like simple colours, lines and shapes.

  15. This is a real African mask. You can see the way the mask’s style changed Picasso’s way of painting.

  16. Picasso started: • Using hard, sharp lines to show edges • Child-like coloring • Simple shapes and forms like, squares, cones, triangles and spheres We call this style Cubism

  17. What shapes or forms can you find?

  18. Picasso’s colours started to become brighter and more exciting. His lines started to curve into interesting shapes. His art was abstract.

  19. Picasso would draw and paint by showing all angles of a person or object in one picture. This means that you can see backwards eyes and nostrils where you normally would not.

  20. “When I was as old as these children, I could draw like Raphael, but it took me a lifetime to learn to draw like them.”

  21. After many years of creating art, Picasso finally found a style that he was happy creating. It was so special and unique that we named this style of his art… Picassoism

  22. In his studio, Picasso would also create fantastic sculptures with his playful style.

  23. When Picasso was young and learning to paint he made realistic pictures… Realism • When he was sad he painted blue… The Blue Period • When he was feelinghappier… The Rose Period • After seeing African masks… Cubism • His own curvy, fun and colorful style… Picassoism Picasso changed his art styles as he grew older. Even though he painted thousands of pictures, he never got bored because he was always learning and painting in new ways.
