  1. The Eye Clinic Presbyopia Are you having trouble reading your SMS? This is because you have developed presbyopia, also called ‘lao hua yan’. It is consequence of aging and happens to ALL of us. Why does presbyopia /Lao Hua happen ? With age, the natural lens in the eye loses its elasticity therefore decreasing the ability of the eye to focus on near objects. This is a sign of the beginning of cataract. Cataracts do not go away with eye drops . They must be removed by surgically. Good news is cataracts have to be operated on only once as they will not grow back again. During the surgery we will implant an intraocular lens. You could choose a multifocal lens which means no more glasses for far or near forever . There is no need to change the intraocular lens. Cataract surgery is Medisave and insurance claimable.
