Unit 15: The mountain environment The mountain environment At the top of very high mountains, it stays cold all the time and the snow never melts On the higher parts of the mountain, nothing can grow and there are fewer animals The higher up the mountain you go, the thinner the air is, which makes it harder to breathe Trees and other plants grow on the lower slopes and animals live here too.
