1. Acrostics. Acrostics - A type of poem where you take the 1st letter of the word and tell about the word. It’s similar to an AlphaZone , but you are using the letters of the word. Remember to use FULL sentences , to be creative and have fun.

  1. 1. Acrostics Acrostics - Atype of poem where you take the 1st letter of the word and tell about the word. It’s similar to an AlphaZone, but you are using the letters of the word. Remember to use FULL sentences , to be creative and have fun. G – “Get out a snow white piece of paper,” is what she says in class. A – Always do you class work and home work or suffer the consequences! L – Listen carefully when she gives directions. L – Loves really great shoes and jewelry, too. A – All or nothing is how she grades the homework. R – Really believes in being kind and respectful. D – Does she ever wear sneakers? O – Only you are responsible for your grade!

  4. 3. Couplet Couplet – two-lined poem that rhymesand each line contains the same number of syllables. 1 couplet = 2 lines!

Haiku Haiku – 3 lines, does NOT rhyme, DOES have specific syllable count, (line 1 has 5 syllables, then line 2 has 7 syllables, and line 3 has 5 syllables), usually about nature, tries to capture one moment, from the Japanese culture. Ex. 1-2-3 4 5 Succulent red juice 1-2 3 4 5-6 7 Dripping down my hungry mouth 1-2 3 4 5 Tiny green stem gone -> Now, you do 4 – nature, family member, you, fruit

  6. 5. Limerick Limerick– from England, a “nonsense verse” (usually silly), 5 lines with the pattern (rhyme scheme)of aabba Ex. There was a young boy named Billya In class, he acted really silly a When he got home, Mom was mad b She yelled, “Wait until I tell your DAD!” b So he ran and ran and hid behind Aunt Lilly a

Diamond Diamond also known as Diamante – 7 lines, non rhyming poem (free verse), beginning and last line are opposite words, it shows change in feeling from first line to last line, and it’s shaped like a diamond. (duh) one noun two adjectives three “ing” verbs four nouns three “ing” verbs two adjectives one noun (opposite) War Violent, deadly Stabbing, killing, shooting Vietnam, Iraq, US, Japan Living, relaxing, singing Happy, loving Peace

Cinquain Cinquain– similar to the Haiku, short poem that follows a pattern, usually about nature, but it does not HAVE to be, and they do NOT rhyme Line 1 1 word Noun Spaghetti Line 2 2 words Adjectives Messy, spicy Line 3 3 words Verbs “ing” Slurping, sliding, falling Line 4 4 words Phrase In my hungry mouth Line 5 1 word Noun/Adj Delicious
